Fighting...

Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.”  Scott Adams

Chemo session number one- the first day was long.  We arrived to do lab work and fill out questionnaires for the study.  After the 6 tubes of blood they took yesterday, I was caught off guard by the 10 more she took right at the start.  They accessed my port which was a breeze and I got anti-nausea for the first go around.  Then I got some benadryl with it and oh my drowsy here.

Next came the big unveiling of the actual drugs I was getting... I got the TDM1, which is the experimental drug, along with either a placebo, or pertuzamab.  This is what we had hoped for, now if only we can find out if its placebo or drug I am getting along with the TDM1.  I can't really say I experienced much of any discomfort.  It really was just letting the drugs drip in and then having observation time in between.

At 3, since I was still being observed, the Psychologist I was going to see, came to see me instead.  Speaking of kindness, I have no benefits for mental health on my insurance policy.  I know... But, she was undeterred.  She is working it out so that I will get seen anyway.  Wow,  I'm bowed down by so much these days and pray that the good Lord continues to keep me worthy and humbled.  My Eucharisteo journal is getting filled up with goodness after goodness, or Godness after Godness, as I am more prone to think these days.

It was close to 5 pm before I even got home, and wow, I was tired.

Just for the occasion yesterday, I wore my new necklace, in honor of another woman battling stage 3 breast cancer.  My neighbor Kari gave this necklace to me and the woman's name is Jodi, and her sister Joy made the necklaces as a fundraiser for her sister. If anyone else would like to purchase one of these hand stamped necklaces let me know.  She said she would be happy to make some.

Here are some of the first few photos I've gotten of friends and family wearing their breast cancer hockey laces bracelets in my honor.

Way to rock the bracelet Alex!

Katelyn, a relative in South Dakota sporting her bracelet.

Um, hello, take that Cancer!! That's my idea of standing up to it!  Thanks Elizabeth!

How cute are these kiddos?  Colton's hockey team wore the pink shirts at their banquet last night.  I couldn't attend as my white blood counts are due to drop and I will easily pick up any bugs going around.  But so glad friends got a few photos to share.  And Colton, who was a little averse to wearing pink?  Wore his pink shirt to school today!

My spirits remain high, although I have some nausea and fatigue today.  So I am taking it easy.  Please know I read all my email, and will try to reply back in a timely fashion, but forgive me if something slips by me on occasion.  Thanks for helping me Fight like a girl!

  11. Love, you, girl!!!! I just can't even begin to tell you about the emotions of that first chemo day. It's all so new, and scarey, and reality sets in, and you sit there for hours twittling your thumbs and your mind races to a million and one places that it shouldn't! But we get through it. All fighting girls do. I love this army that marches behind you, Vicky. We are all cheering you on, praying for you, and we know that ultimately, God has the victory. I sent you an email. Did you get it?

  13. I am glad Vicky that chemo and the battle has started. The side effects will be bad, and will make you feel very tired, but try and exercise for atleast 15 minutes everyday. It will ease the side effects. I am sure your doctors must have told you all of this and more. I am sorry for being repetitive. I hope and pray the side effects are negligible. Loads of love to you. Take care :-)

  14. Vicky,
I am extremely technologically challenged, so please forgive me for not reaching out to you sooner. Please know that Mark and I are thinking of you, reading every word of your blog (THANK YOU), and praying for the best for you, Rick and the boys. Stay strong and hang in there-good things come to good people.
    Love, Cherri and Mark Ziarnik

  22. Love all the photos and all the support but especially love your line about "goodness after goodness or Godness after Godness." Yet another confirmation that I need your book! I'll be sending a picture along soon and I wish I could see you just to hug you or sit with you during chemo. Love you, Vicky!
