Mayo bound...

Hope is faith holding out its hand in the dark.”  George Iles

We found at 2:00 this afternoon that our appointment for the Mayo Clinic is tomorrow at 12:45!  Yay!  However, they would like me to do some blood work first, at 7 am!  Oops.  Its a 6 hour drive from here, so we will pack the car and leave tonight.

I don't have a lot of time to share with you today, all the wonderful blessings that continue to flow through my doors.  But I had to share these day brighteners from my niece Madi!  Thanks for the smiles, sunshine, these are beautiful!

At 2 pm I got the phone call about going to The Mayo Clinic.  Admittedly, a flutter of panic set in.  At 2:10 there was a knock at the door.  Its my friend Susan.  First she tells me through her own experience how wonderful The Mayo Clinic is and how I am really going to be okay.  Then you know how they say the best things come in small packages?  She leaves me with this and I take a poor picture of it.  But Susan, has left me with a little box of Hope :)

Three weeks into this "fight," and God is still here showing up every day, of that I am convinced.

There is a large group of pretty amazing people that are all gathering tonight to talk about and make plans for... are you ready for this?  The Vicky Westra Benefit Fund. Um, wow.  I have to admit, 4 words I would never in a million years have strung together on my own.  But that is the whole point, isn't it?  I am so not alone in this.  I continue to be in awe of the people stepping up, stepping forth, offering their time and talents.  I am deeply amazed and humbled.

  3. How wonderful that you are able to access all you need so easily and quickly (at least from this point of view). May you meet sensitive medical staff that open new and productive doors for you. I'll be thinking of you.

  5. Vicky, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you make this trip.

Your reference to Dr. Luo made me smile. If you took three hours for that final, I must have sat there all day!

I'll be following your posts and will look for a time to connect soon. Lots of love, strength and peace, dear friend.

  6. You are never alone Vicky. Even those of us who live far away from you are bathing you in thoughts and prayers. And of course, God is holding you in His hand.

I am so glad to hear that you have gotten an appointment with the Mayo Clinic. I have only heard good things about them and believe you will be blessed with your experience there.

    Loving Hugs, Eileen

While we wanted to go tonight, we are still struggling with a sick Olivia. And the flood...and so you understand.
I haven't seen you or brought you a gift yet, but you are in my heart and prayers constantly. :)

There is hope! I want to write you more through email. Not sure if you'll be able to check, but if you do, I'll be there.

  13. I saw you tonight for a milisecond and thought I would have more time to see you again. Now I know why. I pray for safe travels for you and for your courage and for your doctors and for whatever is needed to heal you. It was fun to see Hali and Nolan's class tonight wasn't it? She was saying she can't wait to wear the new ”it” thing (your bracelet) as soon as we get them! Love you!

  16. I read your post late last night. I went to bed praying for you, and got up early this morning and began to pray. I know how important today is. I remember the feeling that came over me as I realized that the whole future of my life rested in this oncologist's reading of biopsies, blood work, mammograms, etc. Suddenly I learned the meaning of the word "trust." You will, too, Vicky. And you will find that the Lord is ALWAYS faithful, even during the times when we doubt and are afraid and don't know what to do. I can't explain it, but there is a peace that comes. I am so praying for you today. Praying you will have peace, that you will be able to listen to all they say, and that you will hear HIS voice through it all! Love you!!!!

  20. It's early Saturday morning here, and you are first on my find--- probably because it's YOUR face I see first thing when I log onto my blog!!!!! I'm praying for you, praying that you have the wisdom to sort through all the information you received, decisions you have to make, etc. I can only tell you that the Lord will guide you. Think of lonely eagles soaring through the highest skies alone with the wind and currents and clouds. Yet, God sets in that eagle's heart wisdom and guidance and fearlessness. So He will with YOU, Vicky. So fly with the eagles today!!!!
