the KVLY news story...

Here is the link to the video page at KVLY, the video is posted in the first position currently as "Moorhead Woman Inspires Others With Blog"

The story on KVLY didn't air until 10 pm last night and we had to wait out the end of the convention before the start of the news. Then suddenly, it flashed on the screen and I had to laugh that Amy Unruh caught me at the place I inhabit so frequently- my computer desk.  As soon as I saw my blog, I instantly  thought of all you of that show up to read everyday.  I felt at ease instantly.

I loved seeing the boys doing what they love to do, and having Crosby front and center is very typical for us.  But then she got me.  She got me good.  She had asked me to scroll down my screen- and the photo she focused on happened to be the canvas that my sweet friend Sara had made for me: Its not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.  It felt like a heavenly hug from Sara.  Amy didn't even ask me about it- she had no idea that she captured my heart right there.

The story is about me and my journey with Stage IV Breast Cancer , but I think Amy got it just right.  At the center of my world, is much more than a cancer diagnosis, and what I hope you see is everything that is near to my heart.

She also took a close up of my new cuff bracelet from Kelly Rae Roberts... its says "shine your inner light, soar, always soar, on the brightness of being alive."  I love wearing my word of the year.

Tomorrow is our big day- The Vicky Westra Benefit- the auction items continue to roll in much to our amazement and its shaping up to be an awesome event.  Please feel welcome to stop by and say hi. I'm fairly certain there is no admission price so if you'd just like to stop by we'd love to see you.

Oh... and we of course left one tiny, well no, make that big, rather big, surprise for tomorrow night... but you will just have to come see for your self.

  3. Your blog is what started our friendship and I am so thankful for that (more than you would think). I love what technology, writing, and blogging can do by connecting people when they least expect it. You continue to amaze me with your strength and drive to live everyday to the complete fullest. Like I said yesterday, I will be thinking of you tomorrow and wish I could be there! Enjoy the friends, family, and strangers that will be there to support YOU and your family.

    With thoughts and love,
    Carrie

  4. Oh Vicky - she really did do a great job telling your story in the short time available to her. I'm sure the TV spot and this blog are helping many others to find that they too can live with not knowing and fear.

You are such an inspiration - and I was especially moved to just hear your voice after all our blog exchanges.

Have a wonderful, comforting, healing and profitable evening at your benefit tomorrow. Wish I lived a few miles closer.

Have you read Eckheart Tolle's "The Power of Now". His gentle soul reminds me of you and his take on the healing benefits of stillness and silence are so worth the read. You can also watch him on YouTube - he truly has the sweet, non-judgmental innocence of someone who has transcended the fear and judgments of ego-mind.

    BIG hug.

You always encourage me and are so gracious with your words- thank you Bonnie- you also have mentored me and opened me to so much and I will be eternally grateful for that.

  7. Your voice was just as sweet as I imagined it to be. The kids both wanted to watch Ms. Vicky with me, and Camden said "wow" when it was over. It brought tears to my eyes.

Love your cuff bracelet, and I love that pretty turquoise ring you were wearing!

Many, many prayers that the benefit goes well tomorrow!
