Winter Solstice

Its finally the first day of Winter and I laugh just hearing the sound of that.  Technically, we've had winter for weeks now.  Do you suppose spring will come as early?  Like maybe in February?

I decided to try and love the snow the other day. Instead of the dread, loathing, general yucky feeling I have about it, I thought I might try to just notice how beautiful it can be. We were traveling for hockey. The sky was grey in the beginning, but as the miles passed, the sky opened up to bright blue. The more I watched for shots to take, the more I noticed how striking everything looked.

Just like I do on my camera, I just had to redial my internal lens, and I forget time and again, I have the ability to do so.

Do you see... in the small opening in the brush is a horse?  I did NOT notice this when I took the photo.

The trip was fast. Nolan scored a hat trick (3 goals.) Our team won its fifth straight game. And I found a way to like the snow, which is a good thing considering we got 8 more inches of it yesterday and its still lightly snowing today. Remind me please, in January, I once liked the snow.

  1. Great shots Vicky! I could easily mistake your countryside (except for it being quite flat) for Quebec in winter. Love the way the horse is framed in those bush branches. Congrats to Nolan for his hat trick! Hope all your xmas plans and visits are falling into place. Have a merry!!!

  3. First day of winter, but also the day where the "sun comes back to the world" and the days start getting longer1 So, we have that! And on these grey days, I'll take it!

  4. Your Nolan sounds like my Nick in soccer. lol
    Nice JOB THERe GUY!!!

I seemed to notice that winter began earlier last year as well and finished earlier too.
Might be seasons are changing. Might be that the earth changed its slant.
We take all this lumber out of South america and keep loading the North so this is what we get now.
Might have nothing to do with global warming.
    lol

  7. I love all your snow photos. I feel right at home looking at the farm fields and snowy conditions.

It's cold snowy weather like this that makes spring much more appreciated by us folk in the midwest.

  13. Just beautiful!!!!!! For one winter I want to live somewhere that we get multitudes of snow :) I say one winter because I know after that I'll be ready to come back to the south.
