We went to the zoo today... me and the entire first grade from Colton's school. Can you say, exhausting? I think all first grade teachers are saints. And Kindergarten teachers and second grade teachers and well, you know what I mean.
This is Stan. He is a white-naped crane who scared the pajeebers out of us when he pecked the plexiglass. All we wanted was a close up view of him... so he crouched down and then snuck up on us and when he stood up he was literally face to face with us. And when Colton put his palm up to the glass? He pecked at it!
Do you see his eyes? Yeah, he is an omnivore... he eats plants and small mammals... and if you look closely at his eyes, you'll see small boys just might be on the menu!
He pecked and pecked and us.
Until little Aubri said "he is creeping me out, lets boogie." So long Stan.
And one big canadian goose.
"Did ya hear the latest on the missing prairie dog? You know, Stan is just two exhibits over... I'm just sayin..."
The zoo always makes a great field trip! Looks like you had beautiful weather too. And, I agree that the perfect ending to the day is a ride on the carousel! :0)
ReplyDeleteCute! Was this in town or Whapeton? My kids went down there in first grade...as always Colton is so cute!

ReplyDeleteHi Vicky
ReplyDeleteyou have to be a saint....
We have a saying here which comes from an old advertisement for headache tablets and I always think of it in relation to a school excursion.
When you get home you need:
a cup of tea
a 'bex'
and a good lie down...
Happy days
Great pictures. My kids love the zoo. I would stay clear of Stan :) Love the prairie dog picture too.
ReplyDeleteI love days like that... um, minus 100 first graders...
ReplyDeleteOh I love to spend a day at the zoo!
ReplyDeleteand I love coming back. I remember Granby Zoo In Quebec had this one bear we visited and he always had his mouth wide open for people to throw peanuts. His tongue was blue and as he grew older a piece out of his tongue went missing. but he still sat there waiting. I remember my son laughing at this bear so much that people were throwing peanuts to the bear just to watch and hear a baby laugh.
Those were great times.:)
Enjoy Westra :)
Ohmysoul, Vicky, I am crying I'm laughing so hard at that stupid prairie dog caption. Seriously! And what makes it even funnier is that when I first read Stan I was reading to fast and read it as Satan! Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a day full of good memories ...
ReplyDeleteYou know how to make a good time better. Great captions! Great photos.
ReplyDeleteI love the prairie dogs! A trip to the ZOO with a group of 1st grade students may just be a level of hell! LOL
ReplyDeleteThat stork would creep me out too, especially if I was the height of a second grader.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the field trip picks. You will be thankful for all the memories those hold with your boys.
