I was a pretty lucky girl yesterday. I forgot my camera. Guess who leant me his back-up? Yep, photog hubby who has some pretty nice "office equipment." So he put a long lens on his camera for the close-up shots, and I got the smaller lens which worked great for on the ground shots.

With camera gear and children in tow, we headed off to the Fargo Airsho. I was reminded of how far Nolan has come with his sensory issues. The first time we took Nolan when he was 3. He didn't last long. He became "supercharged" and "overstimulated" in the huge crowds. Plus he was flooded with lots of new smells like jet fuel, and loud super-sonic jet engine noises.

But this time he kept his composure right up until the Blue Angels were introduced. He suddenly became overcome with panic in remembering how loud they had been going over our house on Tuesday when they practiced. Fortunately a man with an extra set of earplugs offered them to us. The ear plugs and a bit of cajoling and comforting on my part seemed to help. We also let him escape the masses and we stood on the outskirts instead of in the midst of the crowd.

We were treated to a wonderful show. I am in awe of the skills and daredevilish bravery on display. But it was such a great feeling to think that these are the type of men and women that serve and protect our country every day.

  1. Very nicely taken pictures Vicky :)Loud noises do scare children but as your son grows up, he will over come this as well. Don't worry :)

The men in uniform are indeed so very brave. They aren't worried about sacrificing their lives, so all of us sleep peacefully feeling completely secure. Hats off to them and their profession!

  2. The photographs are splendid...as usual. You captured the day in pictures beautifully....the jets, the smiles, the flag...men in uniform and the crowd. Very well done, my friend.

  4. Some great shots. Love the ones of your boys so engrossed in the airplanes.

Air shows are simply amazing - the precision, the speed, and the risk - it really does take one's breath away.

  5. Stillness, I was looking through my Tolle book today and saw it was HIS book that bears a likeness to your former blog name :) I haven't read that book of his yet, but may want to now!

Jackie, thank you. Once I get these kiddos back in school, I hope to write with some depth a bit more than I am able to these days :) So for now, its all pictures.

Stephanie, and my dh got some even more amazing ones but I was too short on time to download and convert all of his photos too :)

Bonnie, you summed it up perfectly!

  7. Great pictures -- I remember going to the air show...way back when. It was cool then and it looks just as cool now. Christopher would have loved going with I am sure. This summer...well...we had thought about taking him to the EAA airshow in Oshkosh - but that was a no-go either. Next summer. Glad your boys had a fun day.

  10. GREAT shots, Vicky!! And what a wonderful family time. TWM is a collector of plane models and we have always wanted to see the Blue Angels. So glad you guys DID! And glad it was more fun for Nolan. That makes it so much more fun for him and everyone else, too. :)

Thank you, Vicky, for ALL your kind encouragement. You are so sweet to me friend. :)

  11. Is that hubby's serious camera lens over his shoulder if the first pic?
We have a big airshow here every 2 years but we have never been. I have never bothered to fight the traffic and crowds it creates.

I think one day we should make an effort to go.
