rescuing...

I'm guilty of it without realizing it.  I "tell it like it is," sometimes.  I write a post. Spill whatever is going on.  Release it.  Feel better when I don't have to carry it anymore.  Then move on.

And then I expect that my blog friends will come and commiserate, cheer me up, pray for me, or laugh along with me. End of story, right?

But the part that continues to just floor me every time?

Is when someone does an additional thing.  And rescues me when I least expect it.

I get calls, texts and emails with offers of help.  "Can I help?"

Like Jenny, and Nicole, and so many others after my post on Friday.

Nicole reads about the boy's birthdays and my lack of getting anything done, and then contacts Jenny who bakes and decorates cakes.

So in a matter of a couple of exchanges, the boys have a cake scheduled for a surprise arrival.

And shoot- the two girls were so cute appearing at my door yesterday- why didn't I reach for the camera?

So for Mother's Day we grilled hamburgers and had Grandma and friends come over for Birthday Cake.  Could there be a better way to celebrate the day?

Jenny has a facebook page for her cake business.  Its called Baby Cakes and so worth your time to check it out!

As if cake weren't enough- I had one more unexpected gift on Mother's Day.  I stumbled across a new post in my fb feed.  A Roger Maris Oncologist has started a blog.  I clicked right over... and

And really- you should just go read.  I was so surprised! Its a short introductory post, but you'll see why I was left humbled.  Plus, its a blog that I think so many people will find insightful and helpful and inspiring.

Dr. Shelby Terstriep's blog:

I'm feeling better!  I adjusted my meds and it helped.  One more day and my second round will be complete!

I have sedation and a brain mri on Wednesday...  Dr. Foster on Thursday and we have another birthday boy to celebrate!

Happy 11th Birthday to my Colton Jack!

  1. That is one cool cake! And you have great friends to come to your rescue!

I, too, always feel like its almost a relief to press "post" and then I can almost forget about it. Almost like releasing the burden.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. I envision you sitting at that same table that your weary head was resting on.. two years from now..saying.. boy that was one heck of a go-round... but I'm here today enjoying life because of it.

    Happy Birthday Colton!

  5. You are very blessed, Vicky, with friends who are so caring! To know they are there can be such a comfort in itself. The cake is wonderful! And, I agree with you, there is nothing better than grilled hamburgers and cake to celebrate a birthday!

And, as always, my thoughts and prayers will be with you this Wednesday and Thursday.

  6. YAY for TERRIFIC friends who see our needs and then meet them. WE are all blessed by those closest to you who we can count on to move into the spots necessary and take care of you. LOVE IT! So glad you are feeling better and I will be praying for you through these procedures.

I gotta get more info from you about sedation for MRIs. I've been putting one off for two years because I know I'll never make it through that again.

BEAUTIFUL CAKE by the way! XOXO

    1. I FEEL blessed and it catches me off guard because everyone is so thoughtful and rescues me time and again. The "sedation" part is actually quite simple - somewhere between 2-3 Xanax and I am out. Usually it takes about an hour to take full effect and they have a nurse who checks on me the whole time. I'm still able to follow their instructions and answer the mri techs when they talk to me, but I have little memory afterwards of being in the tube. Then I go home and sleep deeply for hours afterwards. No driving for 24 hours and I have to promise not to sign anything!! Hope this helps a little :) If the Xanax did not work they can do anesthesia - but that is a lot more in depth!

  8. Hi Vicky, I am catching up today!!

so happy to hear you were recued and treated to some nice things!! Lovely to see how those close to you bless you!!

Happy Birthday Nolan - Travis' birthday is also May 11th - I didn't remember that they were on the same day, another thing we have in common! Travis is now 15!! And we too share a special bond being that I labored with him ALL day on Mother's Day that year, but he didn't arrive until 3am the next day!

and Happy Birthday to Colton - I believe, if I read correctly, that his birthday is the same day as my nieces, May 16th? I love May babies!!

Glad you are feeling better and I will say prays for you for the rest of the week to be peaceful and smooth!!

    xoxoTiffany

    1. Happy Birthday to Travis! I was thinking of you all- I too forgot they shared the same birthday! I meant to post yesterday and so some of this stuff isn't reading quite right, so Colton's birthday is actually today, the 14th (which was my original due date with Nolan) so I mix up their B-days all the time :)

Thanks for the prayers sweet one~
