Remember when I won the beautiful canvas from my uber-talented friend Sara? Some of you asked about how you might be able to get one and today you may have a chance. You have until Midnight tonight to enter and all you have to do is leave a comment about something that made you happy this week. Thats it. In fairness, since I've already had the distinct honor and pleasure of winning one, I am not leaving a comment today. I sure would love to see one of you have a chance to win one of her canvases however. So go here and leave her a comment!
Since hardly a day goes by that I don't participate in Sara's blog, I still thought I'd leave my words for her here :) So one thing that made me happy this week was being given the opportunity to give a little myself. In keeping with my theme of being "intentional" this year and "purposeful" I received an email about a family in need. The mother and her 4 kids had escaped in the middle of the night last September and fled an abusive husband. And while she has an apartment, they have been sleeping on pushed together mattresses on the floor. They fled with only the clothes on their backs, no pictures, no clothes, no toys. They have been washing their clothes out by hand in the bathtub. The mother takes her kids to school on the city bus and has to endure 3 transfers both there and back in the afternoon. The email goes on to say that the mother has been just remarkable in her courage. She hasn't complained once about her situation. Her kids are reported to be kind, and respectful. And she left. She did it. She secured a hopeful future for her family. In my book that took such guts.
How could I not help? We have sooo much. I had the happiest time yesterday searching through toys and books. I still had baby sheets, a mattress pad and some bottles. And still I couldn't find enough of any one thing that was useful to her. Until, I opened my cupboard and saw a left over Christmas gift card. Now truthfully, I have been hanging on to it to use for some household items. But seriously, did I NEED anything? Uh, no. After a quick consult with Rick I threw in the gift card. I know that card can go so far for a family with 4 kids. Whether they buy some winter coats or boots for the kids or what have you. And having my friend Amy come and not only take my big box but deliver it for me, that was all just bonus. This then, the opportunity to help another mom, was one thing that made me really happy this week. Now get yourself over to Sara's and share what made you happy this week!
As promised here is one of the recipes I promised to share. I have to work on getting the Chili recipe out of my head and on paper in measureable quantities.
Shirley's fudge bars. I only leave out the nuts. Hope you enjoy!

ReplyDeleteBonnie, I sent you the email with all the details. It truly is a good feeling. Thank you for jumping on board!
ReplyDeleteOh, you just gave me such chills... what a beautiful, intentional heart you have. That is so amazing!!! If it wasn't for those new little twins, what you just did for that mom may have been the happiest thing in my week.
ReplyDelete:)
Those twins trump everything! They really do, and I so meant to tell you to pass along congrats to the new parents.
ReplyDeleteAnd can I tell you how fun it is to see my friends show up on your blog :) Super-duper fun!

ReplyDeleteI know... how insane are the comments?!?! I think I'm at 126 right now. My friend Jessica Turner told her bloggers about it today and hundreds of them came over. Crazy. I do, however, know that come Friday I'll be back to my normal number of hits :) Thanks for spreading the word today too... I never thought it would be that big of a deal.
ReplyDeleteI think its fantastic! I've always thought your words and your message should be shared with a wider audience and I love the fact that someone with some readers sent them your way. And you know I'll be happy for the winner, but if I'm honest I have to admit to rootin for a name that I know :) I'm not so sure some of those readers won't just stick around :) Look what happened the first time I visited and now you can't get rid of me!!
ReplyDeleteCame back to copy your recipe!!!
