Summerlicious...

“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As longs as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles.”
― Anne FrankThe Diary of a Young Girl

I really need to go back and read this book.  I'm finding new meaning in a story this isn't new.

I love using Picmonkey to play with my photos.  Their site has been in summerlicious mode and I am just not ready to face it changing to something else.

My Fitbit has been leading me off on adventures every day and I am breathing in all the summer I can.

Monarchs just dance from flower to flower in this garden.  I could stand and watch for long periods of time.  I even saw a hummingbird hovering in the center part.

I'm discovering nature is such a good teacher.  As I watched the ornamental grass blowing in the wind I noticed right in the middle of it two purple flowers managing to use the grass to wrap around so they could reach the sunlight and bloom.

The leaves tell a bit of a changing story as some reds fill in amongst the green.

Just across from my path is the Red river which is really brown and muddy in color. I love how the trees have grown up around it, framing it in this way.

As I walked down near the river a bit, I stumbled across this home made swing.

After Rick, and both boys got through with a nasty summer cold, it seems to have finally gripped me.  I've been laying low and seem to have the worst of it behind me.

Rick leaves for Idaho for a week on Sunday.

Monday I will have my PET scan to gain a clearer picture of what the heck my cancer has been up to, from my chest down.

I'd be so honored to have your prayers for Monday, and for me to be able to face whatever news awaits me.

  1. Praying for calm for you on Monday, and some good family time this weekend to just "be," not anxious about Monday, for it will take care of itself, and not worrying about Rick being gone and you flying solo. Easy for me to type and pray; harder for you to do, I know.

  4. The colors in your photos are absolutely outstanding. I'm floored at the brightness of everything there at this time of year, everything seems to be flitting to muddy browns and golds in our part of the country...with Caraganas snapping and combines circling the crops. As I have said so many times, you are such a gifted writer...you just were meant to write. Even the simplest things you say have such clout and so many times after I leave your blog your words settle deep inside me for days to come.

I will continue to pray for the upcoming PET scan and that you will find comfort and strength in the quiet. Trusting that He has you in the palm of His hand - it is so evident in your words. Praying too, that the nasty cold takes a hike.

    Love to you this Friday.

  9. Beautiful images, Vicky!.. and you have my prayers for the best possible outcome after Mondays scan. Anne was such an incredible person at such a young age in the harshest of circumstances. Look at the light she is to the world, even many decades after she's gone. Can you imagine if she had lived.

    1. I loved the Anne Frank story having read it several times as a young reader, but now I and curious as to how I would see it with adult eyes. Yes- can you imagine what she may have gone on to do in her life? Good thoughts to ponder!

  11. Thanks for letting us know what's coming. Will Rick be there when the results are shared? I know it will be hard for both of you if he can't. What time is the scan? I like to pray at specific times. You are being held by God's everlasting arms. As hard as it may be, rest.

    1. I truly don't know if Dr. Panwalkar will call, or if he'll just wait till he sees me on Tuesday of next week? I trust his instincts and will just wait patiently in the meantime. I'll be sure to let everyone know if I do hear something before Tuesday :)

  12. My dear sweet friend,
What a wonderful quotation from Anne Frank about when you are afraid or lonely or unhappy... go outside. That's where your heart will connect with God's glory. Love that reminder! And then... your magnificent tour of beautiful flowers and plants. Ah, truly a feast for my soul.

You have been on my heart and mind all weekend. I am praying and praying, as so many of your prayer warriors are, for your sense of deeply feeling loved by God, and all of us, as you take your PET Test tomorrow. Know in your deepest heart-of hearts- that you are NOT alone tomorrow.

We are not going anywhere. We are holding our ground against the cancer you have. We are in for the fight, right there with you, your family, and all your special friends.

I love you to the moon and back, dear Vicky!
