savoring

“Taking pictures is savoring life intensely, every hundredth of a second.”
― Marc Riboud

Superman rescued me on his way back from Idaho.  He bought me a new camera.  Every so often, someone will gift us with money to use for whatever we need/want at the time.  Cards and notes will specifically request use this for something fun for the family.  Use this to get a pedicure.  Use this to go out to dinner, etc.  If there is a specific way in which someone requests that we use the money- we honor that request.

But when its not specified, I've stuffed it in an envelope adding to the money we received from all the bracelets sold so long ago.  I've dipped into it once in awhile when a need arises.  Nolan needed new shoes just 3 months after we bought him shoes. Colton needed a goalie helmet this summer, etc.  But by and large that envelope is untouched and I shove whatever comes not earmarked for our medical fund, into the envelope.  I've always been a saver.

So low and behold, there was enough for a new camera- while still leaving the original bracelet money intended for our someday trip.

I took the new camera out for a spin today.  It would have been my Dad's 83rd birthday today.  In honor of him we headed out towards our church which is still next to open spaces.

“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.”
― Dorothea Lange

Okay- so I haven't gotten very far out of program mode yet.

But I did come away with a list of everything I savored-

the tranquility
 the peace
 the amber light
the golden memories of my dad
time spent with my husband shooting photos

What are you savoring today?

  1. I'm so glad you have another camera and the shots are great! I live around cornfields just like these. I LOVE being out away from the city.
Today I am savoring cooler temps, warmth of sunshine, tea and quiet:)

    1. I like your list Kristin, it looks very similar to mine :) My husband saw an older house by the cornfields and instantly said he would love to live in a place just like that!

I am savoring the quiet at work today - after a "huricane" blew thru yesterday and Monday - ugh!

  6. I am savoring your beautiful pictures today and glad you are enjoying the new camera.:)
I also knitted a doily and now I am looking at a sunflower to crochet and a sweater for my doggy who will soon be cold in winter. She loves wearing little sweaters. Dogs are not stupid lol
My son has a coach who will have a baby soon (and a wedding before it's born), so I offered to make a blanky for the baby but my son said no. Guys don't like being sappy. I told him it's not for him. It's for his wife lol
Oh well. Kids grow up and move away and don't seem to need anything anymore. lol

  7. Yippe, beautiful photos again. And the perfect gift for your health I would say. Very therapeutic, and for us too looking at your photos. You two are going to have so much fun with the new camera. Put some tips on your site, as you have a wonderful eye for great shots. Truly lovely and definitely views to savor. What am I savoring right now? A friend who believes in me and has given me a great gift to help me with my writing.

  11. Beautiful photos, Vicky. I know what it is to have the feel of camera in your hands! When I have my camera in hand, I am an artist with all of nature spread out before me. I am expressing what I see as well as celebrating this beautiful gift that God has given us.

I am savoring the crisp mornings as autumn draws near and the cozy feeling of wrapping up in a nice soft throw as the evenings grow cooler and darker earlier.

Enjoy your camera! Looking forward to seeing your pictures!

    Hugs, Eileen

  12. Hurray for a new camera!

I am savoring a walk with a friend this morning in our cooler, fall-like temps. Later today I am going to savor a rare family dinner out and Rory's soccer game. Nothing cuter!

  13. Well, I do believe Superman got you one heck of a camera. Beautiful photos.
And that Dorothea Lange quote, so so true. I mentioned to my wife recently, "the tree next to our house looks like it's leaning more toward the neighbors house." I was concerned it might fall. She responded saying, it's always been like that, you just look at things differently now, meaning, since I bought a nice camera.
    Anyway, enjoy that new toy.

  16. I am so glad you got another camera! ! Today I treasured the presence of my grandchildren without
my camera in hand. Normally I have my iPad camera clicking on and on, but today no photos just some fun time memories with the little ones at a picnic at a park for Buds cousins retirement.
