Because I didn't know what I was going to do next...

One week without my girls, and it became too quiet, too lonely, too quickly. So I threw out a random lifeline to a friend via email that maybe she would let her seriously sweet 14 month old daughter come to my house some day. Guess what?

She did... she is... I am... so happy. Baby K started coming a few mornings a week so that her mom can go work in their busy crop insurance office. The irony to me, is that I used to work in crop insurance, so I completely know what "busy" looks like for her mom.

It has been a brand new challenge of discovering everything that is baby K. She has a keen sense of observation. Her big brown eyes see everything.  She is tentative, with all this newness.

Show her how to work a toy, how something fits together or comes apart, and she is doing it herself after a try or two. She enjoys reading books, zooming cars, and pulling blocks apart.   But try grabbing her "Eddie" out of her mouth to take a picture of her smiling... and tears spring to her eyes and threaten to spill over.

The tears are stopped as she grabs her Eddie, and finds her blanket.  I'll try again another day.  Today, I will meet her right where she is.  I put the camera away and pull her on my lap.  As I pick up a book to read, she draws her blankie over my leg and settles her head back against me.  I know we're both in a good place.

On another note, why is it than we I watch other kids, I am more attentive to their needs than I am at home with my own?
