How to lose 5 lbs. overnight...

Nolan is still at home from school today.  His fever has subsided but he now has congestion in his chest, coughing and lots of sneezing.  Tuesday afternoon, my own stomach started to feel a little funny.  By 3 pm I felt awful and went to lay down with a still feverish Nolan.  By nine pm the vomiting and diarrhea hit me full force. Yuck...  I have felt pretty miserable the last couple of days.

Except, I'v also never been more grateful.  The horrific scenes from Haiti are still entrenched in my mind.  While I could be sick in my bathroom which makes for minimal clean up, and have my husband come check on me and bring me things, and crawl into a comfy bed to rest, I thought of the Haitians, still stuck in the rubble, bleeding, injured, hurting, cold, hungry, lonely.

Even in sickness, I am so lucky.  Plus, I lost five pounds, but I don't recommend my methods.

  3. Hope you and your family feel better real soon! I always dread that funny feeling!!! I once lost 10 lbs. after getting sick on bad meat. I wouldn't recommend that method either. I too was thinking how blessed I am to be in a warm and dry home during these storms.

  4. Poor you. I hate being sick! I didn't know that Nolan had the stomach flu, I just thought it was a fever/cold thing. Your family needs a break.

  5. Susan, thanks... we sometimes need to be reminded :)

Bonnie, feeling better already... helped to get some food in me and keep it for awhile :)

Eileen, exactly, I don't think what is happening to us should be diminished, but put in proper perspective.

Bonnie, no, you were right, he only had the fever and cold thing... I ended up with the stomach bug.

  10. Vicky...we have to do something about this 'crud' going around.
I'm soooo very sorry that you and Nolan were sick. Ironically, the same thing is happening around here...and we are far far away...my sweet family next door (son, daughter in law, grandson) all had it...and I am sick now.
PLEASE, take care of you. I do hope you know that I'm thinking of you!!!!

  11. I love you. And your heart. And I'm SO sorry you're sick.

Yuck. And bummer. And a few other choice words.

But I will say my favorite line in a movie is in The Devil Wears Prada when she says she's just one good stomach flu away from her goal weight.

Truer words were never spoken. Well, except after Cushings. I'm gonna need a few more flus than one to reach my goal :)

    Love you.

  13. Oh dear! How is the young one now? Until he is fighting fit, don't let him out in the cold at all!

Hope you are better now. The weather is so freaky! Stay warm, stay healthy!
